Gartner’s latest Hype Cycle for Digital Identity places Verifiable Credentials on the Slope of Enlightenment. Some may see that as overdue recognition. For others, the more interesting question isn’t where Gartner has placed them, but how Verifiable Credentials are already being applied. VCs have already become an essential building block for initiatives like UNTP, GRID and UNVTD, to improve the exchange and interoperability of trusted business information across organisations, industries and jurisdictions. That’s a broader conversation than digital identity. Of course, some may argue VCs are still in the early stages, with business models, regulation and adoption continuing to evolve.
