What are some examples of Trust Architecture signals? Indications from a sector or a community that there is interest in improving transparency for sustainability and trade in general. Intentions voiced. Work groups launched.

Trust Architecture Signal: Seafood Traceability

One of the things we encourage Trust Architects to do is watch for signs that an industry is starting to organise around transparency, traceability or trusted information exchange.

In March 2026, the Global Dialogue on Seafood Traceability launched consultation on an update to its traceability standard, moving towards a more commodity-agnostic and modular approach.

At the same time, regulatory developments such as FSMA 204 are reinforcing the need for interoperable traceability approaches.

For Trust Architects active in the seafood and broader food sectors, this is the kind of signal worth paying attention to.

Trust Architecture Signal: Textiles

In this case, the signal is by no means a single initiative. There are many transparency and traceability related activities happening at the same time.
• Work towards a textiles extension aligned with the United Nations Transparency Protocol (UNTP)
• Industry activity around Digital Product Passports (DPPs) and a growing ecosystem of textile-focused DPP and traceability solution providers
• Industry forums and stakeholder discussions focused on traceability and interoperability
• Use of technologies such as QR codes, RFID and other approaches to linking physical products with digital information
• Regulatory developments creating additional incentives for organisations to improve transparency and traceability

Taken together, these activities indicate a sector that is actively grappling with trusted information exchange. They also highlight an important community activation challenge.

The textile sector is not a single community. It is made up of many different communities with different products, supply chains, business models, priorities and market pressures.

For Trust Architects, the community activation opportunity lies in helping a specific community within that sector organise around a shared challenge.

Trust Architecture Signal: New Regulation

One of the things Trust Architects can watch for is new regulation that creates a shared implementation challenge across an industry. Here’s an example from the Australian market.

From 1 July 2026, Australian hospitality businesses will be required to identify seafood on menus as Australian (A), Imported (I) or Mixed (M). On the surface, it’s a menu labelling requirement, but in practice, it creates an information-sharing challenge.

Restaurants can only label seafood accurately if country-of-origin information flows reliably through the supply chain from producers, processors, distributors and wholesalers. That creates a common problem for a community or communities of organisations rather than a single business.

For Trust Architects, these kinds of regulatory changes can signal opportunities for community activation. They create a shared reason for organisations to come together, explore common approaches and reduce the burden of solving the same information exchange challenge independently.

As regulation creates compliance obligations, it can also create or motivate communities around a common objective.

Trust Architecture Signal: Steel

One of the ways Trust Architects can identify emerging opportunities is by watching where industry bodies begin investing time and effort.

The Australian Steel Institute (ASI) has published details of a Data-Driven Connectivity initiative, describing it as:

“An industry-wide initiative supported by the Australian Steel Institute to build a federated digital trust ecosystem for the construction supply chain — enabling every construction product to carry a verifiable digital identity from manufacture to end-of-life.”

According to the ASI, the initiative has been developed in collaboration with stakeholders across the construction ecosystem and is aligned with the National Building Products Coalition (NBPC) Traceability Guide, the ABCB National Product Assurance Framework and ISO/IEC 18975:2024.

The initiative also references:
• Verifiable digital product identities
• Supply chain traceability
• Digital Product Passports (DPPs)
• Interoperability and common data standards
• Alignment with the United Nations Transparency Protocol (UNTP), Universal Data Protocol (UDP) and other international standards

For Trust Architects, this is an interesting signal.

It suggests an industry body sees value in collaborating across its ecosystem and exploring approaches to trusted information exchange, traceability and interoperability.

One of the ways Trust Architects can identify emerging opportunities is by watching what industry associations and coalitions are publishing.

When a community moves from talking about transparency and traceability to publishing implementation guidance, it can be a sign that the conversation is evolving from awareness towards exploration and practical experimentation.

The National Building Products Coalition (NBPC) - nbpcoalition.net - has recently released its Traceability & Digitalisation Guide, which discusses topics including:
• Trusted and verifiable product information
• Supply chain traceability
• Interoperability and common data structures
• Digital Product Passports (DPPs)
• The United Nations Transparency Protocol (UNTP) and its role in enabling trusted information exchange

For Trust Architects, this is an interesting signal.

It suggests an industry coalition sees value in exploring shared approaches to trusted information exchange, traceability and interoperability.

Trust Architecture Signal: Convergence

Individual transparency initiatives are interesting. When a number of intiatives within an industry start referencing one another and selecting some of the same building blocks, it’s even more interesting. We’re starting to see this in Australia’s built environment.

Recently, the National Building Products Coalition (NBPC) - nbpcoalition.net - published its Traceability & Digitalisation Guide, referencing the United Nations Transparency Protocol (UNTP) as part of its approach to trusted information exchange.

The Australian Steel Institute’s (ASI) Data-Driven Connectivity initiative then described itself as being aligned with the NBPC Traceability Guide while also referencing UNTP, the Universal Data Protocol (UDP), the ABCB National Product Assurance Framework and ISO/IEC 18975.

For Trust Architects, that these initiatives are beginning to acknowledge and build on existing work is a signal worth paying attention to. It may indicate that an ecosystem is starting to converge around common challenges and frameworks, creating opportunities for community activation.
