One of the questions we’ve been exploring is: How do you recognise conditions that may indicate an opportunity for a coordinated Trust Architecture approach? Or - perhaps more specifically at the moment - what are some signals that would indicate an industry segment or community is suitable to approach re: establishing a community activation program for UNTP?

Communities will experience the conditions for Trust Architecture before anyone recognises there is an opportunity. Because Trust Architecture is an emerging professional discipline, communities are unlikely to ask for it directly. Trust Architects therefore need to recognise the signals that may indicate an opportunity for coordinated action.

Procurement requirements change. Reporting obligations increase. Industry bodies hear the same concerns from multiple members and write about them in their newsletters or on their social media accounts. Organisations begin broadcasting the need for trusted information, provenance or interoperability, often without describing it in those terms.

To help explore that question, we’ve developed two complementary resources.

The first is a Pyx Knowledge Base article: Trust Architecture Opportunity Signals [LINK TO BE ADDED]

The second is the Trust Architecture Opportunity Assessment Template shared in this thread. This is a first draft of practical framework for recognising opportunity signals, evaluating whether an opportunity warrants further investigation and determining next steps.

It includes:

• A structured framework for recognising and documenting opportunity signals
• Guidance for gathering evidence from multiple sources
• An approach to evaluating whether signals are converging around a common challenge
• A framework for determining appropriate next steps, from continued observation through to beginning an Inception phase

This isn’t intended to be a definitive methodology.

It was developed with the assistance of AI and reflects what we’ve learned so far through Community Activation discussions, workshops and early practitioner experience.

We’re sharing it as a working resource for the community. A draft. An early draft.

**Purpose:** A practical framework for recognising opportunity signals,
evaluating whether an opportunity warrants further investigation and
determining next steps.

This template is designed to accompany the Pyx Knowledge Base article
**Trust Architecture Opportunity Signals**, which explains the types of
opportunity signals Trust Architects should look for, where those
signals commonly emerge and why multiple converging signals are often
more meaningful than individual observations.

## How to use this template

Trust Architecture opportunities often emerge gradually rather than
appearing fully formed.

Communities may begin experiencing procurement pressure, increasing
reporting obligations, operational friction or growing demand for
trusted information long before they recognise these as indicators of a
broader coordination challenge.

This template helps Trust Architects capture those observations,
evaluate their significance and determine whether an opportunity
warrants further investigation.

It is intended to be used before engaging a community in a formal
Community Activation Program.

The template is organised into five parts:

1.  Record the opportunity and why it has come to your attention.
2.  Assess evidence across the major opportunity signal categories.
3.  Evaluate whether multiple signals are converging around a common
    challenge.
4.  Assess whether the opportunity warrants further investigation.
5.  Determine the most appropriate next step.

signal.

Use this section to assess whether multiple indicators point towards the
same underlying challenge.

-   Is there evidence that multiple organisations are experiencing the
    same issue?
-   Is there evidence that the challenge would benefit from coordinated
    action?
